Kendal Winter League

LATEST NEWS: KWL Barbon 16th Feb CANCELLED

+++++++++++++

Kendal Winter League races start on  Sunday 5th of January and then mostly weekly until end of March.

The junior races start at 12.00 (please allow 15mins to sign in before the start of your race) and the senior race at 1.00 - last registration/collect number at 12.45.

Please register online (this is free) if you wish to compete in any race in 2020, via the form in the races dropdown menu (not visible on Friday and Saturday).  Just pay on the day for the races you do.

NOTE: The online registration will close sometime on the Friday before the Sunday race to allow us time to prepare the entry sheets. There will be forms for EOD, but we are aiming to reduce this. Including the junior races there are often 300 or 400 runners at these races and the paperwork is a massive undertaking on the volunteers who have to type in runners details for results. The days of 70 runners turning up with an SAE are long gone.

Junior races will be run as Under 13 (min age 8), U15 and U17, and within the U13 race there will be an U11 category. Within the senior race there will be an under 21 championship.

If we need to cancel a race due to severe weather including poor road conditions for travelling to a race or conditions on the fell we will post on Facebook by 7:30am on race day or sooner.

Fixture list.

'Under' categories age is defined at the end of the year, as in age on 31st December 2020. Eg. An under 13 must be under 13 on 31st December 2020 to compete in the under 13 race. The minimum age of any runner is 8yrs old on or before race day.

We are delighted that Different Strokes will again be supporting this year's Winter League Series. Detail of the prizes for this year's competition will be announced soon. Robert Crawford, the Managing Director has also made a significant contribution to Helm Hill Runners which will help support the Club's activities throughout the year.

We are also excited to announce that a new sponsor will also be supporting the series in 2020. Pete Bland Sports will be working with Helm Hill throughout the year and this includes the Winter League and other races which the Club organises. The Pete Bland van will be at selected races (details to be confirmed) and this is a great opportunity to support our local running shop. A big thanks to Matt Bland and the team for their help!!

Kit requirements – ALL runners need to bring kit to the fixtures and be prepared to carry it. Seniors – full waterproof body cover, hat & gloves. Juniors – waterproof jacket, hat & gloves.

A polite reminder that due to landowners' specific requests, dogs are not permitted at  winter league races. We have to negotiate access each year, so please help by not bringing your dogs to ensure these races can continue.

All races are flagged and open to all (no need to be a member of Helm Hill or any running club). Senior race distance anything from 2 - 5 miles, from hard cross-country to gnarly (but low-level) fells. Junior races shorter.  Junior races from noon (U13,U15,U17), senior races follow around 1pm (Note: Last registration for seniors is 12.45).  7 races from 11 to count for senior series, 5 from 10 for junior series - points mean prizes.  See individual race pages for more info on each race.

Please share cars where you can, as parking is limited at all races.

In competing in any race you accept the hazards involved in fell running and run at your own risk. The organisers accept no liability for any loss or damage of any nature to yourself or property.
