Arnside Knott fell race, Sunday 17 November 2013 - a contingent of strong Helm Hill junior runners turned out for the 2nd Arnside Knott fell race. The first junior race was for U8s and U10s, during which Rowan Baker ran hard. The U12s, U14s and U16s all started together and, like the previous race, were differentiated by turning at varying points on the hillside above Hollins farm. The 3 older junior age groups had a course which took them into muddy woodland, including a steep muddy downhill and a steep muddy uphill. All juniors had to risk the slippery limestone that lurked amongst the grass on the lower section of the hill. Congratulations go to all Helm Hill runners who completed this course including those who were in the prizes - Robert Askew, Elliot Wren, Jacob Aubrey, Emelia Stevens and Katie Thurlow. Lastly, a special mention for Brandon Brookes who pulled off a really impressive fast finish as he sped for the line.

See the 2013 album in the gallery for photos.

ENGLISH SCHOOLS FELL RUNNING CHAMPS

Some photos here

Helm Hill juniors, each representing their secondary school, were out in  force on Sunday for the English Schools Fell Running Championships, at QKS.

It  was a rare opportunity for  budding runners to race with many high level athletes from around the country; many of the competitors were County standard,  and quite a few were England runners. Helm Hill youngsters put a huge amount of  effort into their running, and there were some great results. See the link on www.esfrc.org for full details. Meanwhile, many  Helm Hill adults were marshalling the course, worked on registration, stewarded  the parking and the road crossing, took photos and monitored the start/finish. A  big thank you from me for everybody’s enthusiasm and competent work on Sunday!  Lorna Askew.

See athletesinaction and woodentops for fantastic action shots taken on  these challenging courses.

BOFRA RACE - BURNSALL

Today a selection of dedicated HH Juniors turned out to race, on a day when most would prefer to be indoors, let alone running up a fell!

Well done to Maddie Walsh as 3rd U9 girl. Our only junior in this age group at this event :)

Mollie Bratt had a fantastic run and was 7th girl in the U12's...very well done, all that hard work and commitment is clearly paying off!!! Well done also to Mia, Katie, Josh and Elliot who all ran really well and were rewarded with some excellent results.

Jacob had a brilliant run and got 6th in the U14's boys despite being under the weather and full of a cold!  Imogen and Mia both put in fantastic performances. Imogen claimed 2nd and Mia 4th in the U14 girls :)

U17's and another great result for Helm Hill by Katherine Lawson, who despite a fall, came in a strong second!! Well done everyone for your place and for even getting out there and taking part on a day like today.

BRADLEY FELL RACE - U17 England Trial

It was good to see a number of Helm Hill vests at Bradley family day, which was also a HH Champs race and for some runners who were eligible to qualify, the all important U17 England Team selection for the Junior home international!! It was a fantastic atmosphere and the standard was high! The race set off fast and the pace did not relent. Heidi Murray had a fantastic run which saw her claim 6th girl. Katherine Lawson and Matthew Senior also put in strong performances for 10th girl and 12th boy. Video by Bethanie Murray Athleticos.org

                                       *************************************

Katie Thurlow was the only Helm Hill runner in the U14's event and put in a brilliant run on what was a tough course. Mia Walsh ran hard to secure 2nd girl in the U12 race, Josh Roelants' hard work and commitment paid off earning him a good position in the U12 boys. Maddie Walsh was 3rd girl in the U9's with another excellent run. Well done everyone!!

Although this was not the longest of courses, all who took part said it was a hard race, the competition was tough and the pace was fast. I think it demonstrated to all our juniors, the importance of maintaining fitness levels over the summer when competing at this level!!

GRASMERE SPORTS

It has been a great summer of racing for Helm Hill Juniors and Grasmere Sports (video by Bethanie Murray Athleticos.org) was no exception! The U9's race saw Maddie Walsh claim the first win of the day for the club. Dylan Cater also put in a great run and came 6th Boy. Well done to our youngest club runners on the day!

In the u12s event, Mia Walsh and Emelia Stevens came 2nd and 3rd Girl. Lottie, Erin and Ella were not far behind in 7th, 8th and 11th place. Josh Roelants had a fantastic race and came 10th boy.

Jacob Aubrey came in an impressive 5th place in the U14's...well done!!

Next was the U17's race. Chris Richards put in a fantastic performance and gave Helm Hill their second victory of the day. Georgia Stevens was 3rd Girl!! ...All in all the day saw a string of great results for all juniors who took part, which is testament to the standard of running amongst our juniors and of course the standard of training by our dedicated club coaches.

KETTLEWELL - BOFRA race

Another fantastic day on the fells in Yorkshire, with plenty of great results by Helm Hill Juniors!

The tremendous sense of team and the excellent sportsmanship amongst our juniors makes you all wonderful representatives of the club. Well done to everyone who raced, as so often is said by the Helm Hill coaches, it is not your position when you cross the finish line that is most important, but the fact that you were on the starting line! Helm Hill juniors turn up to race each weekend with a smile, a desire to succeed and do well, but most importantly to have fun. Of course this was all helped along last weekend by the wonderful sunshine at Kettlewell and the opportunity to cool off in the river afterwards :)

Helm Hill BOFRA race 23 June 2013

There is a mistake on the BOFRA website regarding the date of the Helm Hill race. The race is listed on the calendar correctly as 23 June but clicking through to the details reveals an incorrect date of 23 July. Correct date for the race is Sunday 23 June with the first race (U9s) beginning at 2.00pm.

Hutton Roof junior results

BOFRA - Sedbergh Gala

This was the first race of the BOFRA championship series. For full results see the BOFRA website or follow the link on the seniors page.

Very well done to all juniors who took part. This was a tough first race, made more so by the wet conditions. Despite very heavy rain throughout the morning, it did stay dry once the gala was underway, but the earlier rain made for a very muddy event.

Well done to Chris Richards 1st U17 boy and Katherine Lawson who was running in the U17 age group for the first time and got 2nd girl.

U14s Jacob Aubrey was the first HH vest to cross the line and was a fantastic 4th place. Imogen Burrow claimed her 1st win in the U14 girls BOFRA champs. Well done also to Mia Senior who came in a strong 2nd.

There was no U9 race so a particular well done to those juniors from that age group who braved this run. Tom Allan (pictured on this page) was first Helm Hill runner to cross the line in the U12's event, followed by Robert Askew, Josh Roelants and Elliot Wren. Mia Walsh was 4th girl followed by Abbie Allan who put in a great run for a very close 5th girl. Emelia Stevens 8th, Mollie Bratt 11th, Lottie and Ella Beardwood 14th & 16th, Katie Thurlow 17th and Rowan Baker 18th. See the 2013 album in the picture gallery for a photo of the U12s race start.

As ever all the juniors did the club proud. It is always fantastic to see so many HH vests competing, doing so well, supporting each other and most importantly, having fun :)

Well done to Clara Samson who came an impressive 4th place in the U8 age group.

Mollie Bratt had a tremendous run and crossed the finish line in 1st place for the U10 girls!! Ella Beardwood lost both her fell runners as she entered a very boggy field on her way back to the finish line, undeterred, she continued with her race and came in an impressive 3rd place. Tom Allan maintained his good form and got 3rd place for the boys, with Vaughan Samson in 5th and Reuben Conner 7th.

Fantastic performances by the U12 girls, Mia Walsh, Abbie Allan and Amelia Stevens who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! Well done also to Lottie Beardwood, Katie Thurlow, Pierce Harris and Joseph Conner who also had great runs and helped Helm Hill dominate the results table again.

U8s Dylan Cater put in a fantastic effort and was rewarded with 1st place! Well Done also to Clara Samson who was 3rd Girl!

A huge turn out for Helm Hill junior U12s who dominated the results table in this age group. This was a tough race for some as there was no U10 race. Well done Mia Walsh 3rd Girl! Tom Allan and Pierce Harris came in strong to get 5th and 8th place for the boys.

There were strong performances by Jacob Aubrey 1st U14, Imogen Burrow and Mia Senior who came in 1st and 2nd girl. Well done!

And finally, a massive well done to Chris Richards, Matthew Senior and Georgia Stevens who moved up an age group and ran in the senior race this year and did us proud!

An extra well done to a strong U10 team, Tom Allan who was the first Helm Hill runner to cross the line in 6th Place and Mollie Bratt who was 6th girl and first Helm Hill girl to finish. Elliot Wren also put in a strong performance, along with Maddie Walsh.

Our very own KWL culminates with the final race, Arant Haw (this is not a points race) followed by presentations in the Peoples Hall, Sedbergh, with something for everyone who completed 5 races. It was very busy last year and a fantastic day for the juniors. Hope to see you all there!
